Causes Of Pimples During Pregnancy

Acne and Pregnancy. Pregnancy should be one of the most exciting and joyful occasions in a woman’s life. Many people report that they have glowing skin and look radiant. This is not the case with everyone, with the sheer amount of hormonal fluctuations that women go through at this time, their bodies are likely to be causing havoc and acne is no exception.

This can be extremely miserable especially for woman who otherwise did not suffer from acne beforehand. Excessive amounts of sebum due to the increased levels of the hormones androgens (male sex hormones) are produced in the skin, particularly in the first 5-6 months of pregnancy which is why the pores of the skin become blocked that produce acne and are the causes of pimples.

But it can occur anytime during your pregnancy, though many women after birth experience a respite as the body starts to go back to normal. Nearer towards the pregnancy, more estrogen is produced whereby acne can improve. Unfortunately, some will continue to suffer with acne and if this is the case and over the counter products have not helped, consult a doctor or dermatologist. It is worth remembering that you suffering with acne during pregnancy does not necessarily mean your child will suffer from it in later life. Acne can appear anywhere on the body, not just on the face but also on the body, for example the back, neck and chest. Acne on the body can be irritated by certain clothing, it is important to wear cotton or another breathable material as much as possible to allow the skin to breathe. Very heavy, thick woollen materials can exacerbate acne.

It is important that pregnant women eat properly, eat nutritional foods and if necessary, take a good multivitamin that is not only good for the baby but for themselves and the skin. Pregnant women at times do not always eat the right kinds of foods or eat sufficient amounts especially if they suffer from morning sickness which is why supplements are especially important to make sure the body is not deprived of the goodness it needs.

You should not use any prescription or even over the counter acne products or antibiotics while you are pregnant unless you are under the guidance and supervision of your doctor. It is best that you make sure your skin is adequately hydrated, making sure to drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, invest in good quality cleansers, gentle toners and a light oil-free moisturiser and make sure your diet is varied but rich in vitamins and skimp on the high fat, sugary foods. Do not over-wash your face and do not touch your spots as this transfers bacteria promoting break-outs. While diet is not directly responsible for acne, it will not help the problem. There is not really a lot that can be done for pregnant women suffering from acne but the good news is it is almost certainly temporary.
